Description
Seiko has expanded its Presage Classic Series with a set of silk-inspired dials, announced 18 June 2026, housed in a new 38 mm case that addresses one of the line's most common requests: a smaller, more wearable size. The dials draw on Tomioka silk — a UNESCO-listed Japanese silk heritage — and the watches support the Tomioka Silk Promotion Organization.
Headlined by the reference HCC001 in shironeri white, the new models translate the texture of finely woven silk into a wavy concentric dial pattern, all powered by Seiko's in-house automatic calibre 6R51.
Design
The dials are the story. A wavy concentric pattern mimics the graceful drape and sheen of woven silk, catching light in soft, shifting bands. The launch reference HCC001 wears shironeri (白練) — an immaculate white achieved through the refining of silk threads — and is joined by further colourways (HCC002, HCC003, HCC008). The 38 mm steel case, 12.9 mm thick, is the most wearable Presage Classic size yet; the HCC001 comes on a stainless-steel bracelet with a super-hard coating and a deployment clasp with push-button release.

What's Exciting
This is Seiko doing what it does better than almost anyone at the price: turning a slice of Japanese craft heritage into an affordable, beautifully textured dress watch. The shift to a 38 mm case is the practical win — the Presage Classic Series has often run large for a dress watch, and 38 mm opens it up to a much wider range of wrists. The 6R51 is a genuine in-house automatic with a useful 72-hour reserve, and at around EUR 1,050 the value-to-craft ratio is exactly the territory where Presage is unbeatable. The Tomioka silk story gives the dial a cultural anchor rather than mere decoration.
History
The Presage line is Seiko's home for traditional Japanese craft dials — from Arita porcelain and Shippō enamel to urushi lacquer — usually at prices that undercut anything comparable from Switzerland. The Classic Series is its dressier, cleaner sub-collection. Tomioka silk, produced at the historic Tomioka Silk Mill (a UNESCO World Heritage site central to Japan's industrial modernisation), is a natural fit for Seiko's craft-storytelling, and this 2026 expansion brings that material into the Classic Series for the first time, in a more wearable case.
