History

Breitling was founded in 1884 by Léon Breitling in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, with a focus on chronographs and precision instruments. The Navitimer launched in 1952 as a purpose-built tool for pilots, featuring an integrated circular slide rule bezel — based on the earlier Chronomat from 1942 — that could calculate fuel consumption, airspeed, and unit conversions on the wrist. It became the official timepiece of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), whose winged logo graced the dial for decades. Adding a perpetual calendar to this pilot's icon merges cockpit-instrument DNA with the mechanical mastery of tracking day, date, month, moon phase, and leap year without correction until 2100.
