Description
Vacheron Constantin is not finished with the smaller Overseas, and this new pair is all about colour. The Overseas Self-Winding 34.5mm arrives in two lacquer-dial references — a deep red sunburst in stainless steel and a tone-on-tone golden dial in 18k 5N pink gold — reusing the palette Vacheron first introduced on the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin last year. It's a display of collection cohesion, and a clear move to open the Overseas to smaller wrists (and, unofficially, a more unisex audience) without cutting the substance that makes it an Overseas.
The 34.5mm central-seconds case was first added to the line in 2023; these two references give it its most expressive dials to date. Both are available now through Vacheron Constantin boutiques.
Design
The case measures 34.5mm in diameter and 9.33mm thick, in stainless steel (ref. 4600V/200A-H127) or 18k 5N pink gold (ref. 4600V/200R-H128). Everything that makes an Overseas is retained: the notched Maltese-cross bezel, the cross-inspired bracelet links and the screw-down crown. The dials do the talking — a sunburst satin-finished base paired with a velvet-textured outer minutes track for real depth under light. The steel model runs a deep red lacquer with contrasting white-gold markers; the pink gold leans monochromatic, with a golden lacquered dial and pink-gold markers and hands. Blue Super-LumiNova on both keeps a subtle nod to Overseas tradition. Each ships with three interchangeable straps on Vacheron's tool-free system: a Maltese-cross-inspired metal bracelet, a textured rubber strap and an alligator leather strap (red rubber and red alligator on steel; white on gold).

What's Exciting
This is Vacheron doing the smart, quiet thing: taking a proven small case and giving it genuine dial drama rather than another safe blue-on-steel. The 34.5mm size is the real news — it opens the Overseas to smaller wrists without gutting the spec, keeping the manufacture calibre 1088/1, the three-strap quick-change system and the full Maltese-cross design language. The compromises to know: depth rating drops to 50m (versus 150m on the 41mm Self-Winding), the 1088/1 offers a modest 40-hour reserve, and this calibre does not carry the Geneva Hallmark. But as an everyday luxury sports watch with a real in-house movement and a lacquer dial you'll notice across a room, the steel red is the value pick of the two. With official pricing still unconfirmed, the retailer figures should be treated as indications, not gospel.
History
The Overseas descends from Vacheron's 1977 "222," designed by Jörg Hysek, the Maison's answer to the integrated-bracelet luxury-sports movement led by the Royal Oak and Nautilus. It became the Overseas proper in 1996 and was comprehensively modernised in 2016 with in-house movements and the tool-free interchangeable strap system that is now a signature. In 2023 Vacheron added the compact 34.5mm central-seconds case, broadening the collection's reach; these 2026 lacquer-dial references extend that push, borrowing the red and gold palette from the 2025 Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin to tie the family together.
