Description
The Overseas is thirty years old, and Vacheron Constantin has marked it not with a dial colour and a commemorative caseback but with the thinnest perpetual calendar the collection has ever carried. Reference 4300V/220G-H119 puts the manufacture's ultra-thin automatic perpetual into an 18k white gold Overseas case measuring 41.5mm across and 8.1mm thick, under an azure blue lacquered dial. It is limited to 200 pieces.
That thickness figure is the entire argument for the watch. A perpetual calendar that finishes thinner than most steel dive watches is a narrow piece of engineering, and placing it in the sports case rather than the Patrimony or the Traditionnelle is the decision worth examining.
Design
The azure blue lacquered dial is the anniversary's signature, graded and deep rather than flat, and it sits under the Overseas' familiar half-Maltese-cross bezel. The perpetual calendar layout is the classic tri-compax arrangement — day and month in the upper registers, date and moon phase below — which keeps the dial legible despite carrying four calendar indications.
The case retains the Overseas' integrated architecture and the brand's interchangeable strap system. The watch ships with the 18k white gold bracelet plus white and denim-blue rubber straps, all swappable without tools, which is the practical part of the Overseas proposition and remains intact here.

What's Exciting
The calibre 1120 QP is one of very few genuinely thin automatic perpetual calendars still in series production, and its lineage runs back to the Jaeger-LeCoultre 920 — the ultra-thin automatic that also underpins the Royal Oak Jumbo and the Patek 2120. Vacheron is one of the last houses still building on that architecture, and at 4.05mm with a perpetual module on top it remains a reference point rather than a curiosity.
What makes this release interesting is the case choice. A Geneva-Seal perpetual calendar inside a water-resistant sports case with an integrated bracelet is a set of requirements that pull against each other — the seal demands finishing standards, the sports case demands gaskets and a screwed caseback, and the ultra-thin brief leaves no room for either. Getting to 8.1mm with all three satisfied is the achievement, and it is measurable rather than rhetorical.
The reservations are equally concrete: 40 hours of power reserve on a perpetual calendar means the watch will need resetting if left off the wrist over a long weekend, and at CHF 120,000 for 200 pieces this is a collector's allocation piece rather than a watch anyone will simply walk in and buy.
History
The Overseas arrived in 1996, drawn by Vincent Kaufmann as Vacheron's answer to a market the Royal Oak and Nautilus had already defined. It descended from the 222 of 1977 — Jorg Hysek's design, made for the brand's 222nd anniversary — and inherited that watch's integrated bracelet while adding the half-Maltese-cross bezel that has identified every generation since.
The collection was substantially reworked in 2004 and again in 2016, the latter introducing the tool-free interchangeable strap system and the in-house 5100 calibre for the time-and-date models. Complicated Overseas references have appeared steadily since, but the ultra-thin perpetual has remained the collection's technical high-water mark, and thirty years on it is the model Vacheron has chosen to mark the anniversary with.
