Description
Seiko's Prospex 1965 Heritage Diver is the modern re-creation of the 62MAS, the brand's first-ever dive watch, and for 2026 Europe gets its own limited edition: the HBC010, announced on 1 August. The theme is Lake Hallstatt in Austria — a dark, calm-water green dressed up with gold-coloured accents — applied to the compact, upgraded case generation Seiko introduced in 2024. It is limited to 1,400 numbered pieces at €1,650 / £1,450, sold exclusively in Europe.
That 1,400-piece cap deserves emphasis: for a brand that routinely makes limited editions in the tens of thousands, this is genuinely scarce. And unlike many colour editions, the base watch underneath is the best version of this design Seiko has ever produced — smaller, thinner, and more capable than the pre-2024 references.
Design
The case is the classic 1965 skin-diver shape with the crown at 3 o'clock, now 40mm across, 13mm thick and 46.4mm lug-to-lug. The dial wears a sunray-brushed dark green with applied gold-coloured hour markers and matching hands, both filled with cream-toned Lumibrite for the vintage-gilt effect; the circular date window sits at 4:30. The unidirectional bezel carries a matte, grained dark-green metal insert with cream inscriptions and a 60-minute scale, under a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Both the screw-down crown and the individually numbered screw-down caseback keep the 300m rating honest. It comes on Seiko's updated stainless steel bracelet with a black silicone strap in the box.

What's Exciting
Green-gilt divers are everywhere; green-gilt divers on the 62MAS case are not. This is Seiko applying the year's most collectable colour scheme to the single most historically loaded shape in its sports catalogue, and doing it in the 2024-generation case that finally wears like the 37mm-era original rather than a modern slab. The 6R55's 72-hour reserve means it runs through a long weekend off the wrist, and at €1,650 it undercuts every Swiss heritage diver of comparable spec. For European collectors, 1,400 numbered pieces of this will not sit in showcases for long.
History
The 62MAS of 1965 was Japan's first serious dive watch and the founding father of every Prospex diver since — Willard, Turtle, Samurai and Marinemaster alike trace their lineage to it. Seiko revived the design as the 1965 Heritage Diver line and comprehensively updated it in 2024: half a millimetre smaller, slightly thinner, 300m of water resistance up from 200m, and a redesigned bracelet. Region-exclusive limited editions have become Seiko's way of rewarding local markets — the HBC010 follows last year's SPB511 in that tradition, this time with an Alpine-lake story for Europe.
