Piaget has taken the ultra-thin minute repeater it has been refining since 2013 and put it inside the Polo. The result is the Piaget Polo Minute Repeater, reference G0A51038, an 18k white gold chiming watch limited to five numbered pieces for 2026, with a high jewellery sibling under reference G0A51017. Price is on request, which is the honest answer for a watch built in this quantity.
The number Piaget wants you to remember is 64 decibels. Minute repeaters lose volume as they lose thickness, and the whole engineering argument of this watch is that it refuses that trade-off. Piaget quotes three harmonic partials and a damping factor of 2,600, with the hours struck on G-sharp and the minutes on A-sharp — a chime that has been tuned rather than merely achieved.
It is also, deliberately, not a dress watch. Placing a repeater in the Polo instead of the Altiplano is a statement about who Piaget thinks buys chiming complications in 2026.
Design
The case is 18k white gold with a rhodium finish, 48mm across and 9.3mm thick — a ratio that tells you immediately which dimension the engineers were told to protect. The repeater slide sits at 9 o'clock. Water resistance is a nominal 30m.
The dial is white gold, openworked, with a hand-guilloché ground and blue PVD accents, and a blue sapphire set at 4 o'clock. The manufacture's home, La Côte-aux-Fées, is inscribed on the dial. Piaget leaves the repeater's inertia governor on display rather than hiding it, and the movement side shows hand-bevelled bridges, a guilloché mainplate, mirror-polished hammers and a platinum micro-rotor. It ships on a blue embossed calfskin strap with a second alligator strap in the box.

What's Exciting
Thin repeaters are usually quiet repeaters. The physics is unforgiving: less case volume means less air to move, and most ultra-thin chiming watches end up as objects you admire rather than hear. Piaget going after 64 decibels — and publishing the damping factor and the harmonic partials rather than leaving it at marketing adjectives — is the kind of specificity that separates real acoustic engineering from a press release.
The Polo case is the second interesting decision. Piaget could have kept this in the Altiplano and made a safe, thin, formal watch. Putting it in the brand's sports line at 48mm is a bet that the next generation of high-complication buyers wants a repeater they can wear with a jacket off, not on. Whether 48mm is wearable is a fair argument — but at 9.3mm it will sit far flatter on the wrist than the diameter suggests.
History
Piaget's reputation was built on thinness. The 9P of 1957 and the automatic 12P of 1960 made the manufacture the reference for ultra-thin calibres, and the brand has spent the decades since defending that ground. In 2013 it introduced what it presented as the world's thinnest minute repeater, and calibre 1290P is the direct descendant of that work.
The Polo itself dates to 1979, Yves Piaget's answer to the integrated-bracelet gold sports watch of the era, and it has been the brand's principal sports line ever since — relaunched in steel in 2016 and expanded steadily since. A minute repeater has never been part of that story until now, which is exactly what makes this reference worth recording.
