Description
Mido's Multifort 8 One Crown is the streamlined, single-crown version of the octagonal integrated sports watch the brand introduced in 2025, and for summer 2026 it goes full stealth. Announced on 31 July, the new version coats the entire ensemble — tonneau case, octagonal bezel, and integrated bracelet — in black PVD, for just over EUR 1,000 (US$1,150).
The pitch is simple: the 1970s integrated-sports-watch formula, with proper Swiss build quality and an 80-hour antimagnetic movement, at roughly a fortieth the price of the watches that inspired the genre. Mido has quietly become one of the best value plays in the Swatch Group, and this all-black One Crown is the most urban, technical expression of that yet.
Design
The 40mm tonneau case is 9.9mm thick with a 44.86mm lug-to-lug, topped by an octagonal bezel that is echoed on the exhibition caseback. Despite the monochrome treatment, the finishing does real work: satin-brushed top surfaces alternate with polished chamfers and flanks, so the black catches light along its angles rather than sitting flat. The matte-black dial carries horizontal engraved lines, applied polished indices and hands filled with white Super-LumiNova, a date at 3 o'clock, and a white minute track on the flange for contrast. The screw-down crown is octagonal and polished; the integrated black PVD bracelet has a handy quick-release system. Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides; 100m water resistance.

What's Exciting
The integrated-bracelet genre is dominated by watches costing five figures, and even the affordable alternatives rarely combine a sub-10mm case, an 80-hour power reserve and an antimagnetic Nivachron hairspring at this money. That is the Multifort 8 One Crown's trick, and the black PVD treatment arguably suits the design better than steel — the angular geometry reads as intentional, architectural, almost stealth-aircraft, rather than as a tribute to any Genta original. As a first mechanical watch or a beater with genuine design personality, US$1,150 is hard to argue with.
History
The Multifort name dates to 1934, when Mido — founded in 1918 by George Schaeren — set out to combine water resistance, antimagnetism, shock resistance and automatic winding in a single robust tool watch. The modern Multifort 8 arrived in 2025 as the Two Crowns, a compact 1970s-flavoured integrated sports watch with an internal rotating bezel; the One Crown followed a year later, deleting the second crown for a cleaner dial and slimmer intent. This Black PVD edition extends that line's most successful recipe, alongside Mido's other applauded revivals like the Multifort TV Big Date and the Ocean Star Decompression Timer.
