Audemars Piguet has worked with Serena Williams since 2014, but the Royal Oak Selfwinding Chronograph "Serena Williams" is the first watch of that partnership she actually helped shape. It is a 38 mm Royal Oak chronograph executed entirely in white ceramic — case, bezel and integrated bracelet — carrying a pink mother-of-pearl dial and the in-house integrated calibre 6401. The 38 mm Royal Oak Selfwinding Chronograph is the reference that has quietly become the most wearable chronograph AP makes: thinner than the Offshore, better proportioned than the 41 mm, and since 2026 running the simplified calibre 6401 rather than the older 4401. Putting it in full white ceramic moves it out of the accessible end of the collection and into the technical one — ceramic Royal Oaks are among the most difficult things Le Brassus produces.
The pairing makes sense on its own terms. Williams has worn Royal Oaks courtside for a decade, and the brief here was evidently a white-and-pink Royal Oak that reads as sports equipment rather than jewellery: no gem-setting, no precious-metal case, just ceramic and an instrument dial in a colour AP rarely commits to.
Design
Everything you touch is white ceramic. The octagonal bezel keeps the eight hexagonal screws and the mirror-polished bevels that separate a Royal Oak from every imitation of one, and the case flanks and bracelet links alternate polished chamfers against satin-brushed surfaces — the finishing grammar AP spent years learning to reproduce in a material that cannot be machined the way steel can. The integrated bracelet tapers in ceramic too, with a ceramic folding clasp.
The dial is pink mother-of-pearl, with the two chronograph subdials at three and nine tonally matched rather than contrasted, so the face reads as a single iridescent surface that shifts with the light rather than a three-register panda layout. Hands are 18k white gold; the applied indices are 18k pink gold given a rhodium tone and filled with Super-LumiNova. The date sits in an aperture between four and five o'clock. Water resistance is 50 m, and the caseback is sapphire.

What's Exciting
Ceramic at Audemars Piguet is a manufacturing story, not a colour story. A ceramic Royal Oak bracelet has to hold the same alternating polished-and-satin geometry as a steel one, in a material that is sintered rather than cut and that destroys tooling; AP has said it takes roughly ten times as long to finish a ceramic bracelet as a steel one. That is why full-ceramic Royal Oaks have historically been perpetual calendars at two or three times this price. Getting one into a 38 mm chronograph at US$95,900 is the genuinely notable part of this release.
The movement matters too. Calibre 6401 is the 2026-generation integrated chronograph AP introduced across the Royal Oak Offshore line — a column wheel and a vertical clutch redesigned with fewer parts, with a flyback-smooth start and an instantaneous midnight date jump. This is not a collaboration built on an old movement in a new case; it is current mechanics in the hardest case material the brand works in. The one honest reservation is the pink mother-of-pearl: a natural material means no two dials match, which collectors will either celebrate or quietly trade around.
History
The Royal Oak arrived in 1972 as Gérald Genta's answer to a brief nobody had asked for — a luxury steel sports watch priced above gold dress watches — and the chronograph joined the family only in 1997, twenty-five years later. The 38 mm Selfwinding Chronograph, introduced in the 2019 restyling that gave the line its current case architecture, was AP's acknowledgement that the 41 mm had drifted away from Genta's original 39 mm proportions.
Ceramic entered the Royal Oak in 2017 with the black ceramic Perpetual Calendar, and white ceramic followed in 2018. Serena Williams has been an Audemars Piguet ambassador since 2014, one of the longest-running relationships in the brand's roster, and this is the first reference to carry her name — AP's second signed athlete edition of the modern era after the LeBron James Royal Oaks.
