Description
The Arken Alterum Sage Grey is the second core colourway of the British microbrand's dual-time Alterum, joining the launch Anthracite as a standard production option after several limited-edition runs. The watch entered its first wave on Saturday, 23 May 2026 at 11:00 AM EDT, sold as in-stock and ready to ship, with a second, unlimited preorder wave opening on Friday, 30 May 2026 for delivery between Q4 2026 and Q2 2027. Pricing is set at £630 (~US$847).
What sets the Alterum apart in the sub-£700 GMT category is its full titanium case, screw-locked primary and secondary crowns, 200 m water resistance, and — most importantly — a proprietary 12-hour GMT-hand module built on a Miyota 9015 base. Most affordable GMT watches at this price band use a 24-hour-scale pilot-style GMT; Arken's calibre ARK-9015DT2 reads as a traditional second-time-zone watch instead, which is the technical differentiator of the platform.
The Sage Grey itself is the colourway that the Alterum's community has been asking for since the Anthracite shipped — a desaturated British Racing Green that reads grey or green under different lighting, retaining the dial's granular texture and the line's signature sand-coloured GMT hand.
Design
The case is 40mm wide and approximately 12mm thick, with a ~46mm lug-to-lug, in titanium with the brand's anti-scratch surface treatment. The bracelet-to-case interface uses a push-button quick-release mounting that pairs the case with a tapered nylon strap rather than a traditional metal bracelet. Both crowns — primary at 3 o'clock for time-and-date, secondary for the rotating internal feature — are screw-locked, and a chronograph-style pusher at 4 o'clock screws down to set the 6 o'clock date sub-dial.
The dial keeps its granular texture from the original Anthracite Alterum but recolours in desaturated British Racing Green that shifts between grey and green depending on light angle. Indices are printed sharp white; the GMT hand is sand-coloured for legibility against the monochrome field. All luminous surfaces use BGW9 Super-LumiNova. An anti-reflective sapphire crystal with undercoating covers the dial; the case-back is screw-down.

What's Exciting
There are very few sub-£700 GMT watches built on a purpose-engineered titanium case rather than a third-party off-the-shelf housing, and even fewer that pair that engineering with a 12-hour GMT scale rather than the more common 24-hour pilot-style readout. The Alterum is one of the only platforms in the segment that does both. At £630 with titanium, screw-locked crowns, 200 m water resistance, BGW9 lume, and a proprietary GMT module on a 9015 base, the value proposition is — for a microbrand at this scale — extreme.
The Sage Grey is also a smart palette move: dial colour discussions in the GMT segment are currently saturated by oranges, blues, and tropical greens, and Arken has gone in the opposite direction. The desaturated British Racing Green shifts toward grey in office light and toward green in direct sun, which gives the watch a different identity depending on context — a deliberate design choice that mirrors the brand's tool-watch ethos. The two-wave drop structure (limited in-stock first, then unlimited preorder) is also rare in microbrand releases and is a reader-friendly compromise between scarcity and reachability.
History
Arken Watch Company was founded by Kenneth Lam in the United Kingdom in 2022, with the brand's debut model — a 38mm titanium field watch known as the Instrumentum, later rebranded as the original Arken — launching in 2023. The Alterum debuted in late 2024 as the brand's second model and introduced the brand's first proprietary movement module, the ARK-9015DT GMT, which extended the 9015 base with a 12-hour GMT hand. A Year of the Dragon limited-edition Alterum followed in early 2025, and a British Watchmakers' Day limited edition in March 2026. The Sage Grey is the first core (non-limited) Alterum colourway extension since the original Anthracite shipped, and represents the brand's bid to convert the Alterum from a single-colour signature into a multi-colour catalogue line.
