Parmigiani Fleurier has marked its 30th anniversary the only way a house built on restoration and chiming horology really could: with a minute repeater. The new Carillon Tourbillon Anniversaire (Ref. PFH996-2010001-300181) is a five-piece grande complication that brings together a four-note carillon repeater, a flying 60-second tourbillon and a minimum ten-day power reserve in a 41.6 mm white-gold case.

This is not a complication-stacking exercise for its own sake. The watch is built around sound, transparency and mechanical choreography, with the hammers and gongs left visible beneath a hand-hammered dial. It sits at the very top of Parmigiani's anniversary programme and is, by some distance, the most horologically significant release of the cycle.

At CHF 490,000 and limited to five examples worldwide, it is unapologetically a collector's object — but one that says more about where Parmigiani came from than any time-only Tonda ever could.

Design

The 41.6 mm by 12.6 mm case is polished 18k white gold, wrapped in the brand's signature vertical "gadroon" fluting along the caseband, with the minute-repeater activation slide integrated discreetly into the left flank. A glassbox sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment arches over the dial, while the sapphire caseback frames the flying tourbillon.

The dial itself is hand-hammered 18k white gold finished in a new tone Parmigiani calls "Morning Blue," deliberately left without applied hour indices so that nothing competes with the exposed hammers and the serpentine gongs coiled beneath the crystal. White-gold hands complete a restrained, almost architectural face whose real ornament is the mechanism. The watch is worn on an Akoya Grey hand-stitched alligator strap closed by an 18k white-gold pin buckle.

What's Exciting

The genuinely exciting thing here is how completely the watch closes the loop on Parmigiani's own origin story. Before there was a brand there was a restorer, and the carillon mechanism is explicitly descended from an early-19th-century Perrin Frères chiming pocket watch from the Sandoz Collection that Michel Parmigiani restored in 2000. Twenty-six years later that acoustic DNA is rebuilt as a wristwatch — a true four-note carillon, not a two-gong repeater, with the hammers and gongs theatrically on display.

What lifts it above the usual grande-complication flex is the engineering discipline around the sound: a double barrel keeps the striking train fed without starving the going train, delivering a usable ten-day reserve, while the flying tourbillon is tucked to the caseback so the dial side stays devoted to the chime. It is exactly the kind of watch a manufacture makes when it wants to remind the market what it is actually for.

History

Parmigiani Fleurier was founded in 1996 in Fleurier, in the Val-de-Travers, by master restorer Michel Parmigiani, with the backing of the Sandoz Family Foundation. The house's early reputation was built not on novelty but on the restoration of historic clocks and watches — including the very chiming pieces whose acoustics inform this anniversary watch — and that restoration sensibility has remained its identity even as the modern Tonda PF line became its commercial backbone.

The Carillon Tourbillon Anniversaire is the headline act of the brand's 30th-anniversary celebrations in 2026, joining other Objets d'Art and anniversary pieces. By choosing a chiming complication rather than another sports watch to mark three decades, Parmigiani is planting its flag firmly back in the haute-horlogerie tradition from which it grew.
